Lane-load points, created along and across a lane, are used to interpolate the influence surface of the lane. Discretization of lane geometry, which proceeds according to the plan-view intersection between reference lines and structural objects, dictates the density and distribution of lane-load points. Once points are established, structural connections are made between these points and structural objects such that vehicle loading within the lane may transfer to the superstructure. This process is described in the Lane-to-object connection article.
