Overview
This simple two span model simulates a structure that is simply supported for dead loads and continuous for live load. A staged construction load case with 5 stages was defined as follows to simulate this condition:
- Stage 1: Add 2 frame elements, one element for each span.
- Stage 2: Assign moment end releases to start joint of the frame element representing the second span. (the frame end releases must be first defined via "Define > Named Property Sets > Frame Releases"; see [staged construction tips] and [staged construction operations])
- Stage 3: Apply loads, the response will be as for a simply supported structure.
- Stage 4: Fix the moment end releases applied in Stage 2.
- Stage 5: Apply loads, the response for these additional loads will be as for a continuous structure.
