How are simply supported beams modeled around a slab penetration opening?

Extended Question: In SAFE, I am modeling a slab penetration opening with steel beams underneath to reinforce the perimeter. I would like the beams to be simply supported at column locations, however, SAFE meshes the overlapping portions of the beam ends to the drop panels, creating a fixed condition. How is this condition modeled?

Answer: To model a slab penetration opening which has simply supported beams reinforcing the underside of the perimeter, implement the modeling techniques which follow:

  • Remove stiff zones from columns by selecting Define > Columns.
  • Connect to the centerlines of the columns.
